More than 100 new funding opportunities have been published on Grants.gov this week, including announcements from the Departments of Interior, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and State. Grants highlighted below fund Mission blue butterfly translocation, data reporting for AIDS relief in the Republic of Zambia and a “Schools as Community Centers” pilot in Albania.
1. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS) – Mission Blue Butterfly Translocation Project
The NPS will collaborate with the Parks Conservancy on both natural resource monitoring and management activities to increase our understanding of the Mission blue butterfly and their habitat amongst the few scattered locations of the San Francisco Bay area, to actively restore habitat for Mission blue butterflies, and to translocate Mission blue butterflies in order to reduce the risk of these Federally Endangered butterflies from disappearing within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). NPS and the Parks Conservancy have a substantial history of collaboration to conduct monitoring and habitat restoration for Mission blue butterflies in the GGNRA. Both parties also have an extensive history of collaborating to provide Mission blue butterfly information generated through monitoring for public educational uses and for adaptive management of park resources.
2. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control – Strengthening and Improving Data for the Republic of Zambia under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)
This NOFO will support the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), PEPFAR-funded implementing partners (IPs), and CDC Zambia to strengthen capacity, improve quality, and increase utilization of HIV-related data for programmatic planning and policy decision-making through: 1) integration and coordination of surveillance and programmatic data analyses including cataloging, reviewing, and tracking of HIV and health-related data available in country; 2) development and implementation of data quality improvement, utilization, and visualization strategies and tools at national, provincial, district, and IP level to assist with data aggregation and triangulation; 3) provision of health-related technical assistance and capacity building efforts to GRZ and IPs to ensure high-quality and sustainable data infrastructure, utilization, and oversight for data-driven decision-making and dissemination of findings; and 4) provision of data analytics support to CDC Zambia and IPs to facilitate timely reporting to OGAC and other key stakeholders. The recipient(s) will work to meet the needs of GRZ, IPs, and CDC Zambia to improve in-country data reporting and management systems, data quality, and data triangulation.
The FSS program supports the Department’s strategic goal of utilizing housing as a platform for improving quality of life by helping HUD-assisted renters increase their economic security and self-sufficiency. The FSS program promotes the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of assistance under the HCV and PH programs with public and private resources to enable participating families to increase earned income and financial literacy, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and make progress toward economic independence and self-sufficiency.
The Public Affairs Office of the US Embassy in Tirana, Albania, pending on availability of funds, announces a notification of funding opportunity (NOFO) to support the implementation of “Schools as Community Centers” Pilot. We are seeking for proposals for the development and implementation of a project, which will serve to address the most pressing issues related to radicalization and violent extremism among youth and other vulnerable communities. The project should design and implement in a pilot format the “school as community center” model, as an effective community outreach and engagement mechanism in countering violent extremism. The project should identify a region among the most problematic areas with regard to radicalization and violent extremism to pilot the model “school as community center”. Through this model, the project would develop partnerships with a local school, cultural centers, regional education directorate, municipality, and other local authorities including law enforcement, to designate appropriate spaces in target communities for engagement with the youth and the public.
